A man accused of stealing a car from a limousine driver in Yonkers was arrested after police found he was operating a vehicle with a stolen license plate, according to the Yonkers City Attorney’s Office.
The suspect, Joseph R. DeSantis, 23, of Oyster Bay, Queens, was arrested on Tuesday at his apartment on West 53rd Street after a man in a limos pulled over to the side of the street and asked him for his license plate.
The man said he had been waiting for the limo to come back to his apartment for a job, and when he got out, DeSants car had been stolen.
The limo owner said he saw DeSant in his car and the driver had a broken tail light and a broken windshield, according with Yonkers police.
He also said the car was in poor condition.
Police said DeSantes was driving with a broken taillight, a broken window, a missing rear license plate and a cracked windshield, but no injuries were reported.
De Santis is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing on the theft charge.
Yonkers City attorney Mark Foy said De Santis is charged with a felony count of larceny and possession of stolen property.
He said De Santas license plate was registered to an individual in Queens, but was not registered to him.
